Mindful Motherhood

From One Mom to Another

How to find moments of calm when time feels like your rarest resource.

I finally got some quiet time. It's been an extra busy week—but honestly, every week has felt extra busy since giving birth to my second child a little under a year ago. So much has changed and shifted.

Keeping calm has been vital during postpartum. It's what helped keep me above water after my first daughter, and it's become just as important this time around. Becoming a mother—no matter how many times you do it—is such a selfless role that we often forget ourselves.

We're constantly caring for and tending to our babies and our families. Somewhere along the way, our own needs get pushed aside. We tell ourselves we don't have the time, but the truth is, we often wait until we're completely depleted before we take action. By then, we're exhausted and trying to find our way back to ourselves.

Aromatherapy can be an incredible support during postpartum, helping us reconnect with our center and create moments of calm in the middle of life's chaos. Some days are easier than others, and on the harder days, it can feel like we're barely staying afloat.

Let's be realistic—the average mom isn't able to book a spa day, let alone use the bathroom without interruption. So how do we keep calm when motherhood becomes overstimulating?

We micro-dose.

What is Micro-Dosing Self-Care?

Yes, micro-dosing self-care is a real thing. It may not be a widely used term, but the concept is simple: instead of waiting for an entire afternoon of free time that may never come, we intentionally create tiny moments of restoration throughout the day.

It just might be the answer to that never-ending question: How do I make time for myself when I feel like I have none?

Here are a few of the "calm doses" I use. Follow them as they are or use them as inspiration to create your own.

When You Only Have 1 Minute

Close your eyes and take a deep breath. Hold it for two seconds, then exhale slowly.

Grab an aromatherapy inhaler with your favorite blend. Set a timer for 60 seconds and simply breathe in your blend, then exhale deeply. Repeat until the timer goes off.

"I am doing my best, and today, that is enough."

When You Have 3 Minutes

Choose calming audio—soothing sounds, white noise, gentle music, or nature sounds.

Set a timer for three minutes and journal. Write about everything you did right today, or simply do an emotional brain dump. Don't overthink it. Just write until the timer ends.

When You Have 5 Minutes

Add your favorite blend to the diffuser and spend five minutes stretching. There are plenty of five-minute guided stretches on YouTube if you'd like a little extra guidance.

When You Have 10 Minutes or More

Rest. As simple as that sounds, I know most mothers will say it's easier said than done.

Taking Action, Even When It Feels Small

I've come to realize that many of the thoughts that weigh us down begin to lose their power when we take action—even if that action is simply choosing to pause. It takes practice, but within that practice you'll find relief. Over time, you'll begin to prioritize yourself with the same consistency and love that you so freely give your children.

Because taking care of yourself isn't taking away from your family. It's one of the greatest gifts you can give them.

Do you make time for self-care?

I'd love to hear what your routine looks like. Share it in the comments—you might inspire another mom who needs the reminder that even one minute of calm can make a difference.

Share your self-care moment with us.
